Prior to implementing the appliance, Moscone’s IT department spent hours each week adjusting Internet access for employees who needed to access to specific job-related sites. With iPrism, Moscone’s IT staff can easily customize settings and set special permissions with only a few simple mouse clicks, saving valuable time and allowing administrators to focus on other critical tasks. Not only does this allow the organization to run more efficiently, but it also keeps employees more focused and productive.

"Above everything else, we wanted to ensure that our network was secure from any outside security threats that could impact our work environment," said Jeewan Gill, IT Manager at Moscone Center. First US Mid-Enterprise Market Study Comparing Total Cost of Ownership Across Industry-Leading Web Filters Published

Add this article to:
First US Mid-Enterprise Market Study Comparing Total Cost of Ownership Across Industry-Leading Web Filters Published Link: http://bit.ly/18jsEA Article:

Study shows 50 percent reduction in TCO using St. Bernard’s iPrism versus other vendors

San Diego, CA - 3/30/2009 - St. Bernard Software, Inc. (OTCBB: SBSW), a leader in Web security appliances, in conjunction with marketing consulting firm Robert Hale and Associates, today announced findings of a new independent US market study quantifying four key areas of mid-enterprise IT work hours associated with St. Bernard, Websense (NASDAQ: WBSN) and SurfControl Internet filtering solutions. Among several key findings, the study identified that cumulatively for the year, St. Bernard customers saved on average more than 500 hours a year managing tasks associated with Web filtering versus Websense.

As the first industry report of its kind, the study provides an objective measurement of IT time and investment for each Web filtering solution in the following key areas: set up and installation, management and administration, hardware maintenance and reporting. Across these areas, St. Bernard customers spent on average just over 483 hours installing and maintaining their product, compared to 1040 hours for Websense and 909 hours for SurfControl’s solutions.

The study also illustrated further detail, as follows:

* Installation hours averaged as follows: 19 hours for St. Bernard, 38 hours for Websense, and 39 hours for SurfControl
* Maintenance hours per month averaged as follows: 14 hours for St.
Bernard, 27 hours for Websense and 26 hours for SurfControl

"We wanted to provide an objective, informative look at the Web filtering industry, and really understand the true costs of operating these solutions," said Robert Hale, founder of Robert Hale and Associates. "To ensure we garnered unbiased information, we randomly surveyed customers and selected the same amount of respondents for each brand of Web filter to optimize statistical testing."

"This study brings to light for the first time the hard data needed by organizations to make informed decisions about the true costs associated with various Web filtering solutions," said Steve Yin, VP of global sales and marketing. "Beyond offering excellent Web security and value, we focus our development efforts on streamlining the entire user experience. We believe the numbers speak for themselves, and are happy to see one of our core value propositions reinforced by these results. It’s good to see our efforts have a positive impact."

The study found no difference across vendors relative to Web use, Internet policy creation, Internet policy enforcement and reporting activities.

Robert Hale and Associates conducted the survey with a sample of 300 midenterprise IT professionals from the commercial, financial, healthcare and manufacturing industries, with100 organizations for each Web filter vendor. The respondents were selected randomly from a database of companies sized 250 – 1,000 employees. The results are significant at the 95% level of confidence, and show important differences between St. Bernard, Websense and SurfControl in each of the four measured areas.

St. Bernard Prevents Web Proxy Use with Multi-Layer Anonymizer Defense

Add this article to:
St. Bernard Prevents Web Proxy Use with Multi-Layer Anonymizer Defense Link: http://bit.ly/18jsEA Article:

Two-layer approach offers leading protection against Web-based proxy servers

San Diego, CA - 2/17/2009 - St. Bernard Software, Inc. (OTCBB: SBSW), a leader in Web security appliances, today announced the availability of multi-layer anonymizer protection in its iPrism Web Filter. Organizations can now benefit from iPrism’s unique two-layer anonymizer defense, which detects and guards against Web-based proxy servers, prevents security exploits, and ensures users can’t circumvent filtering technologies.

Web-based proxies are an increasingly popular threat and pose a significant risk to both the network and the user, which can result in costly violations of acceptable usage policies. St. Bernard’s new anonymizer defense helps effectively detect and block Web-based anonymous proxies though a multi-layer defense. This includes a unique combination of URL-based and proxy patternbased blocking backed by St. Bernard’s iGuard URL classification team. The iGuard team provides a 100% human review and rating of its URL database, which is updated daily so iPrism can identify and block requests for anonymous proxies instantly.

As an added layer of protection, iPrism detects and blocks all uncategorized sites based on the signature file in the iGuard database, immediately identifying new proxy sites. This pattern- based blocking allows iPrism to recognize attempts to establish proxy tunnels, intercept any connections from taking place and document efforts to circumvent the filtering technology in its reports.

In addition to its multi-layer approach, iPrism’s powerful anonymizer defense also features:

* Spoofed SSL – Detects and blocks anonymizer traffic that attempts to spoof secure traffic
* Dynamic proxy detection – Allows administrators to track proxies such as UltraSurf, Google-Web-accelerator and http-proxy domains
* Real-time updates – Monitors for new anonymizers daily and collects proxy URLs, reporting results to the 100% human-reviewed iGuard database to verify pre-qualified Web sites
* Active domain IP address mapping – Cross-references IP addresses to their corresponding domain, further prohibiting access to illicit sites
* Concealed surfing – Reports Web activity by tracking domain names instead of IP addresses

"We noticed a growing trend among students utilizing anonymizers as a way of bypassing filtering policies," said Larry Seely, IT Director at Cornelia Connelly High School. "iPrism’s anonymizer defense automatically provides the most up-to-date protection against these sites, alleviating the burden on IT to manually lock this down. St. Bernard’s iPrism provides a comprehensive Web filtering solution that tackles this challenge, and helps us maintain the educational value of our resources while keeping our network secure."

"With its multiple layers of protection, iPrism’s anonymizer defense provides continual, real-time protection against threats to established acceptable use policies from Web proxies," said Ron Kaplan, Senior Director of Product Management at St. Bernard. "Not only does our new anonymizer protection enhance the value and performance of our leading filtering technology, but it also provides our customers with a simple, comprehensive solution for addressing any proxy exploit while securing their networks."

iPrism comes equipped with high-performance anti-virus and anti-spyware as standard features, protecting networks from the dangers of contaminated Web sites. The iPrism appliance also utilizes deep packet inspection tech
